Ana sayfa / News

Uber has announced a comprehensive collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric and Cartken in Japan to deliver Uber Eats orders to customers through robots. The service is set to initially launch in a limited area of Tokyo by the end of March, although the exact date is yet to be confirmed. Here are the details…

Founded in 2019 by former Google engineers, Cartken had previously started robot deliveries for Uber Eats in Virginia and Miami. This groundbreaking innovation, venturing outside the U.S. for the first time, is expected to significantly enhance the customer experience. Mitsubishi will oversee and supervise the operations of this service in Japan.

The new delivery robot, named Model C, is specially designed to navigate sidewalks. Capable of reaching speeds of 5.3 km/h, the robot can effortlessly carry heavy loads. Equipped with sensors to monitor its surroundings and a camera software to familiarize itself with its environment over time.

Additionally, Cartken employees will periodically monitor the robots and intervene if necessary. Some engineers will even have the authority to remotely control the delivery robots. Shoji Tanaka, a senior executive at Mitsubishi, stated that the use of robots for delivery activities will become widespread in the near future and could address some logistical issues we currently face. However, only time will tell how satisfied users will be with the service provided by robots instead of human couriers.
