In the morning hours today, the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant in southern Ukraine was subjected to a series of attacks by the Ukrainian drone strike, a rare event in the world. Here are all the details on the subject…
Ukraine launched a drone strike on Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant!
Ukraine’s attacks on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant were carried out using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and specifically targeted three different areas. The first strike was launched at 11:38 local time in an area close to the plant’s canteen, injuring three people, one of them seriously.
Half an hour later, the plant’s cargo port area was hit by a drone strike, followed shortly afterwards by another strike on a dome housing the plant’s sixth power unit. Fortunately, no critical damage was caused to the nuclear power plant during these attacks and no casualties were reported. Natural background radiation levels remained unchanged and did not exceed safe levels.
Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear energy company, also strongly condemned the attacks and called on the international community, in particular the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Iranian government, to recognize the seriousness of these attacks on Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and to take action against it. Rosatom also called on the European Union countries to unite against this danger and take the necessary steps to prevent a possible escalation.
