Xiaomi is one of the mobile phone manufacturers to adopt Ultra HDR, an image format that preserves the colour richness and contrast ratio in photos when displayed on different smartphone models. This technology developed by Google has been widely used with the Android 14 operating system. This feature, which is already available on many devices, has now appeared on Xiaomi’s two new phones.
Ultra HDR technology will soon come to more Xiaomi phones
Some of Xiaomi’s phones that already support Ultra HDR include the Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Xiaomi Mix Flip, according to Android Authority. The format is also available on the Xiaomi 14T Pro, which hit the global market last Thursday with cameras developed in partnership with Leica.
Although not yet confirmed, other high-end Xiaomi phones such as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 are also rumoured to support Ultra HDR. But as it is known, Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 13T Pro models are unfortunately not compatible with this image format.
Thanks to Xiaomi’s Ultra HDR supported phones, users will be able to share images with improved contrast with friends and family who have smartphones with HDR compatible displays from other brands.
Ultra HDR images can only be captured using the standard camera app that comes with the device. On the Xiaomi side, this is possible with the HyperOS camera app. However, Google plans to bring the technology to third-party apps soon. Currently, this feature is already supported by Adobe Lightroom.
