Meta and Rockstar Games announced a while ago that they will expand the GTA: San Andreas experience to VR headsets. However, it seems that players who want to experience the beloved game in virtual reality will have to wait a while longer.
GTA: San Andreas VR suspended
The VR version of San Andreas, first announced to be in development by Meta nearly three years ago, has been suspended indefinitely. A Meta spokesperson confirmed that the Quest version is not in development for now.
It was stated that the version of San Andreas planned for Quest VR experienced unexpected delays. In this context, while both companies focused on other projects, there was no time and budget left for San Andreas. This led to the suspension of the project.
The trailer, first released in 2021, featured Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. He said that GTA: San Andreas would be one of the best games ever made for VR. In this context, he stated that they wanted to create a completely new way to experience the iconic open world.
Nearly three years into the project, no announcement has been made about a VR version. Questions about the status of the project and the release date were also left in the air. The Meta spokesperson put the final point on the subject.
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, remains silent on the game for now. However, considering that Rockstar is devoting its entire budget and workforce to GTA 6, it seems logical that the VR version has been suspended.
