Unexpected drop in PlayStation sales! Production stops

Ana sayfa / PlayStation

Sony introduced the PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2), a next-generation VR headset with high hopes early last year. However, it failed to meet expectations with its expensive price and lack of game variety. Sony has allegedly suspended production of the PSVR2.

Sony has reportedly halted production of the PSVR2 virtual reality headset due to falling sales and fierce competition. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Sony is aiming to run out of PSVR2 stocks before ramping up production again.

The PlayStation VR2 was launched in early 2023 with a price tag of 22 thousand TL. But sales have lagged behind VR headsets that don’t require additional hardware, such as Meta Quest. A technology analyst said that the decline in sales is due to the fact that PSVR 2 requires a separate PlayStation console.

It’s time for Siri to be renewed! It will be like ChatGPT

Apple's voice assistant Siri could undergo a major transformation with AI support this year, potentially gaining ChatGPT-like features.

In addition, Sony’s inability to reach a wide enough range of games was another factor affecting PSVR2 sales. Developing high-quality VR games requires much more resources than standard games. This prevented Sony from diversifying its VR games.

Also, because the user base remains relatively small, many studios are hesitant to invest heavily in PSVR2 games. And the lack of new content is deterring users from buying a PlayStation VR2.

PlayStation VR2 will not support PSVR games
Sony has now halted production and expects to reduce stocks of the headset, which has not lived up to expectations. Whether the company can better position the PSVR2 against one-piece VR headsets like the Meta Quest remains to be seen.
