Death Valley National Park in California, USA, is known for its extreme heat. Recently, temperature levels in this region have been reaching extraordinary peaks. So much so that a tourist got third-degree burns on the skin of his feet just by walking on the sand.
Just by walking on the sand, the man’s foot was burned to the third degree due to the heat!
The incident occurred on a day when the air temperature reached about 50 degrees Celsius while the tourist was strolling through Death Valley. But the real danger was that the temperature of the sand on the ground was much higher. In Death Valley, the ground temperature can reach 77-82 degrees Celsius, and even 93 degrees Celsius in some areas.
In this extreme heat, the tourist lost his slippers and had to walk barefoot. Park officials say the man’s skin literally melted off his feet and he suffered severe third-degree burns. Luckily, the man’s family was nearby so they were able to quickly call for help. The first response was made in a nearby parking lot and the man was then taken to a hospital in Las Vegas.
The dangers of being in extremely hot areas like Death Valley are increasing with climate change. Rising temperatures are causing the heat indices in these areas to rise even higher, which can cause serious damage to our bodies. The World Health Organization (WHO) and other authorities are constantly warning about the effects of climate change and extreme temperatures on human health.
If you are planning to visit such areas, especially during the summer months, you need to take into account the temperature levels and take the necessary precautions.
