The company faced a serious problem with the Peregrine lander that will land on the Moon surface. The company is looking for a solution to the ongoing fuel leak problem. The problems are not limited to just this. In addition to the fuel leak, the Peregrine lander’s Altitude Control System thrusters did not perform as expected.

The system failure caused a critical loss of fuel, the company said in a statement. Unfortunately, this prevents the spacecraft from heading towards the sun. This is very important for the vehicle that lands on the Moon to produce solar energy.

Unfortunately, this marks a major setback in the US attempt to return to the moon 50 years after the Apollo mission. Astrobotic was racing to become the first commercial space company to land a plane on the surface of the moon. The lunar surface landing mission was planned to be carried out on February 23. However, it is postponed due to setbacks. The company did not share any details about the new date of the mission.

The company made a statement on the subject. “The goal now is to get Peregrine as close to lunar distance as possible before it loses its ability to maintain its position pointing at the Sun and loses its power.”

Multiple companies are supporting the historic attempt to return to the lunar surface. One of them is United Launch Alliance, a joint venture between Lockheed Martin (LMT) and Lockheed Martin (LMT).
