WhatsApp, the world’s largest instant messaging application owned by Meta, is receiving another important innovation. So much so that the application will start using the username system like other social media platforms. Here’s what you need to know…
Username era begins in WhatsApp! How will it work?
Nowadays, the majority of social media platforms use the username system. In this way, users can find each other more easily. On WhatsApp, on the contrary, communication could only be made via phone number. But this is now changing.
WhatsApp is preparing to introduce the long-awaited username system. So much so that with the latest beta update, Android users can now specify their own usernames and search for other users by their usernames via the search bar.
This innovation will allow users who are reluctant to share their phone number to communicate with their username, thus increasing privacy. However, this may also cause a problem where people may be disturbed by guessing usernames.
Fortunately, WhatsApp will not require users to choose a username. Those who wish will be able to continue contacting only by phone number. While this would provide freedom to users, it could also be a solution to the problem of harassment.
It is not known when this innovation, which is currently in the testing phase, will be available to everyone. Forecasts point to the coming months. All in all, it looks like there’s nothing to do right now but wait.
The feature of encrypting messages is also on the way
WhatsApp has introduced the chat lock feature, which can be unlocked with a fingerprint scanner and face scan, in recent months. Thus, it was aimed to prevent access to important messages when the user’s phone was taken over by someone else.
Now, password is included among the unlocking options . The feature, which is available in some countries, allows you to lock the chats you want with a special password you specify. The secret code you choose for the lock can consist of letters, numbers, special characters and even emojis.
