Valve is killing PCs with the Steam Machine

Valve made a striking announcement about its new console, the Valve Steam Machine. According to one engineer, the new device will offer performance better than or equal to the gaming PCs owned by 70 percent of Steam users.

Company engineer Aldehayyat made this claim in a recent interview. He explained that they based their goals on Steam Hardware Survey data when determining the device’s performance. This allowed them to clearly compare it to the hardware currently in gamers’ homes.

Aldehayyat emphasized that their goal isn’t to create the most powerful PC on the market. Instead, Valve aims to offer a smooth, simple, and affordable platform. The main goal is to run the vast majority of games in the Steam library smoothly.

This statement also addresses concerns about some of the device’s features, such as 8GB of VRAM. According to Steam data, many gamers still use older graphics cards like the GTX 1650 or Intel Iris Xe. The new Steam Machine, with its dedicated RDNA 3 GPU, will easily outperform these systems.

The new cube-designed device is expected to be six times more powerful than the Steam Deck. It aims for a 4K 60 FPS gaming experience with support for a custom AMD Zen 4 processor and AMD FSR technology. The device is scheduled for release in early 2026.
