Vintage sounds: An app for your Mac’s keyboard

Ana sayfa / macOS

Modern Apple keyboards provide a sleek and quiet typing experience, but some people miss the satisfying clicks of mechanical keyboards. Thankfully, an app called Klack can bring that vintage sound back to your Mac’s keyboard.

Klack’s features and customization options

Klack simulates the sound of mechanical keyboards, creating an enjoyable auditory experience. With each keypress, a distinct “clack” sound resonates from your Mac’s speakers. The app offers three different keyboard sound options via its menu bar shortcut: Crystal Purple, Oreo, and Cream. These switches provide varying typing sounds, from typewriter-like clicks to more muted tones.

The developer has also introduced volume control settings, including Soft, Balanced, and Loud. However, the app still lacks a full volume control option. Additionally, there are two minor drawbacks: a slight audio delay when using Bluetooth headphones and the absence of sound for modifier keys, such as Shift or Command.

To set up Klack, users must grant the app permission to control their computer through the Privacy & Security settings. Despite potential privacy concerns, the developer ensures no data collection occurs, allowing users to enjoy vintage keyboard sounds worry-free. Klack is available for $3.99 on the Mac App Store.

Alternatives to Klack

While Klack offers a seamless vintage keyboard experience, other free options like Mechvibes and KeyBell are available. Mechvibes requires more setup and customization, while KeyBell lacks the sound quality and realism provided by Klack. However, these free alternatives can still add unique sounds to your Mac’s keyboard. For the best experience, Klack is worth the investment.
