Apple has launched its Vision Pro smart glasses internationally, which were first sold at Apple in recent months. While the smart glasses were initially well-received, interest and demand for VisionPro began to wane due to a lack of content. Apple wants to increase demand again with the new visionOS 2 and new features announced at WWDC 24 (World developers conference). The new operating system brings new environments and new features to smart glasses.
With visionOS 2, a new environment called Bora Bora is added to smart glasses. There are also improvements to the guest user feature. A family member or friend can now be added to Vision Pro as a Guest User. Eye and hand data can now be saved for 30 days. Previously, Guest User data was automatically deleted after each use. Vision Pro needed mouse support in some special situations. Apple offers mouse support with visionOS 2. More features coming with visionOS 2:
- While in Safari, users will now be able to watch videos in an environment including popular sites like YouTube, Netflix and Amazon.
- Pinned tabs are now supported in Safari.
- Users can tap panoramic photos while scrolling through web pages.
- Travel Mode has been updated with train support.
- Look at messages with dictation: Look at the microphone in the Messages app and then start speaking to dictate a message.
Apple also announced features that will be added to Vision Pro later in the year:
- New ultra-wide screen option for using the Mac virtual display: An ultrawide display equivalent to two 4K monitors side by side.
- Multi-display support in the Apple TV app: With multi-screen support, you can, for example, watch five different games at the same time in five different views.
- Spatial video editing with Final Cut Pro.
According to Apple’s statement, the above features will be added to visionOS 2 in pieces later in the year.
How to install visionOS 2?
Actually, updating VisionPro is the same and just as simple as updating any other Apple product. You can update your Vision Pro smart glasses to visionOS 2 with the steps below.
- Open the Settings app and click on the general tab.
- Click on the software update tab.
- After a quick software update check, visionOS 2 will appear. Press the Update now button and start the update.
- The time the update takes depends entirely on your device and internet speed. You will have to wait patiently until the update is finished. Make sure your smart glasses are fully charged in the meantime.
- After the device restarts, the update is complete.
- You can now start using visionOS 2 on your smart glasses.
