vivo and Nokia have partnered on 5G technologies under a new agreement. The Chinese technology giant will now be able to use Nokia’s 5G patents. The patent lawsuit that has been going on for years will thus be over. So how will this deal affect vivo owners?
vivo and Nokia agree for 5G technologies
Under the terms of the agreement, vivo will gain access to Nokia’s portfolio of cellular technology and standard essential patents. In addition, the company has agreed to pay Nokia royalties for the future use of the patents.
Nokia had previously sued parent company BBK Electronics for alleged infringement of 5G communication technology patents by vivo, Oppo, OnePlus and Realme. Following the court ruling against BBK Electronics’ brands, some manufacturers temporarily withdrew from the German market.
The new agreement came after legal uncertainty between the two companies. With the agreement, all patent infringement claims were dropped. With the entry into force of this license agreement, vivo will be able to re-enter the German market.
Jenni Lukander, President of Nokia Technologies, said she is pleased that both companies have reached an agreement that respects intellectual property rights. Xianwen Xu, General Manager of vivo, expressed his satisfaction with the agreement and commitment to innovation.
The licensing agreement allows both companies to focus on developing 5G technologies. This cooperation also clarifies the license revenues that Nokia will receive.
