Vodafone has recorded the highest fiber internet speed ever achieved in Turkey over passive optical network (PON) technologies. In a laboratory test, the company achieved data transfer rates of 121 gigabits per second using 100G PON technology. This speed is the highest PON access rate ever recorded on fiber infrastructure in Turkey.
121 Gbps speed achieved
The test was conducted in the presence of a notary public and on a specially installed fiber infrastructure. According to the results, a 100GB game file can be downloaded in just 7.84 seconds. Vodafone has demonstrated that an infrastructure capable of delivering speeds exceeding gigabit to home users with this technology is feasible.
The company is pursuing an approach that encompasses not only speed increases but also technological transition. In tests conducted in collaboration with Nokia, the “Coexistence” infrastructure, which allows multiple PON technologies to operate simultaneously, was successfully tested.
This structure, which validates scenarios where XGS-PON (10 Gbps symmetrical), 25G PON (25 Gbps symmetrical), and 100G PON technologies can interoperate on a single fiber infrastructure, will enable service delivery without requiring infrastructure changes during the transition to future speed increases.
Vodafone Turkey announced that it has stopped accepting new customers on its copper DSL infrastructure as of April and is continuing its growth with fiber internet packages offering gigabit-level services. The company plans to commercially offer 25G PON technology to users soon.
