Xiaomi and Vivo allegedly developing their own operating system
New leaks from China indicate that Xiaomi and Vivo will soon start developing their own mobile platforms. Posts on social media revealed that Xiaomi will replace its MIOS operating system with the MIUI interface. Similar to HarmonyOS, it will power all Xiaomi devices, including tablets, cars and smart home appliances.
Vivo is also rumored to be developing a new operating system entirely in-house. With this move, Vivo wants to create an experience similar to Apple and Huawei by creating its own ecosystem.
The new allegations also reveal Chinese brands’ desire for more control over the software on their devices without the need for Android.
As you know, HarmonyOS reached a large user base after the US sanctions. By following this step, Chinese manufacturers can avoid possible Sino-US sanctions. However, it is also said that these operating systems may be specific to China in the first stage.
So far, there has been no official statement from Xiaomi and Vivo. However, it was stated that a major strategic industry change is taking place in China. This may directly affect the smartphone industry.
