Warner Bros. Discovery’s gaming division was disappointing in 2024. Accordingly, the company faced significant financial losses. In order to correct this unfavourable picture, radical changes have to be made.
Warner Bros. suffered huge financial losses in 2024 due to Suicide Squad and Multiversus
Announcing a loss of $ 50 million in the last quarter of the year, Warner Bros. Games’ total loss in 2024 reached $ 384 million. This figure means a 29 per cent decrease compared to the previous year.
Behind this poor performance of the company lies the game projects that failed to meet expectations. While Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was a big fiasco, the new launch of MultiVersus also failed to achieve the desired success.
Even the new Mortal Kombat 1 with an expensive expansion pack fell short of the company’s expectations. These unsuccessful results triggered a reorganisation process within Warner Bros. Games. The company laid off several teams, including Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman project.
In order to avoid financial losses, Warner Bros. Discovery will adopt a more cautious approach in the future. The company will focus its investments on its most valuable game series and will develop a new Hogwarts Legacy. It also signalled a return to the Batman universe with Rocksteady.
It was also announced that a new LEGO game is in development, likely to be released in 2025.
