What is the fate of old iPhone and iPad devices?
The research, which ends in March 2024, reveals what Apple users have done with their old iPhones and iPads over the past twelve months. At first glance, it might not seem like they have much choice. But according to the research company’s report, the fate of the product changes depending on what it is.
According to the study, 67 percent of iPad users either give their old devices to a relative or keep them. However, only 41 percent of iPhone users prefer to give or keep their old devices. In short, the fate of old iPhones and iPads is not quite the same.
So what do people do with their iPhones when they choose to give their old iPads to loved ones? Only 11 percent of iPhone owners give their old device to a loved one, while 30 percent choose to keep it. So your first thought might be that most of them are selling their devices.
But only 5 percent choose to sell their old iPhone outright. Instead, 42 percent of users are trading in their iPhone devices. Only a very small percentage of iPad users prefer to sell or trade in their old devices.
According to the survey, there is also a difference between users who say their old device was broken, stolen or lost. Twenty-three percent of new iPad buyers and only 6 percent of new iPhone buyers switch out of necessity.
The main reason for the different fate of older devices is that older iPads do not generate as good a return on sales as iPhones. The results also show that users think it’s more valuable to keep their old iPads than to sell them. What do you do with your old device?
