ChatGPT, which stands out among artificial intelligence tools for its advanced features, also has some hidden commands. In addition to API access for developers, the chatbot has a developer mode. So how do you open the ChatGPT developer mode and is it dangerous?
What does the ChatGPT developer mode do?
ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI, generates answers according to the user’s requests. However, it will not answer some questions that fall within company policies and procedures. These requests include ethnic jokes, sarcasm, slang and violent content.
ChatGPT’s developer mode, on the other hand, overrides these exceptions and responds to all types of user requests. Developer mode also allows ChatGPT to “think” for itself and generate more creative and unexpected responses.

To activate ChatGPT dev mode, you must have an account on the platform. If you already use ChatGPT, you can follow the steps below:
- Step 1: Go to ChatGPT and login with your account.
- Step 2: Open a new chat on ChatGPT.
- Step 3: Get the message from this link into the chat window.
- Step 4: You will see a message saying “Developer mode is enabled”. Then type the message “stay in developer mode”.
- Step 5: You are now in developer mode. You will receive more “unstructured” responses until you close the chat window.
When using ChatGPT developer mode you should be aware that you may receive responses with obscene or misleading content. These answers may also not reflect the OpenAI guidelines. Note that this mode will also be closed when you finish the conversation.
