WhatsApp boosts group calls with new update

Ana sayfa / News

WhatsApp has launched a new update to its chat platform, focusing on its calling system. The update significantly increases the maximum number of call participants from eight to 32, and introduces new features to make these crowded calls more manageable. For example, users can now activate a mute function by long-pressing on a participant, which also opens a menu to message, enlarge the feed, or increase the audio of that participant.

The update also includes call links for group calls, a feature that has been available on other chat apps such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams for some time. This means that users no longer need to share phone numbers in order to join a group call, and can instead use a link to join the call directly.

In addition to these features, WhatsApp has also added in-call banner notifications, which appear when someone new enters the chat. This allows users to see who has joined the call without having to open the app, making it easier to manage large group calls. There are also colorful waveforms that represent audio when a participant has turned off their camera, allowing users to see who is speaking even if they are not on video.

While iOS users will eventually be able to use the picture-in-picture functionality, the feature is still in beta and will not be available until 2023. The rest of the new features are available now, allowing users to easily manage large group calls and stay connected with friends and family.
