WhatsApp Vulnerability Discovered: A Message That Crashes the App

Ana sayfa / News

If you remember, in the past years, there was a message sent via WhatsApp that caused the recipient’s phone to crash. A similar vulnerability was discovered in 2023 as well. WhatsApp temporarily crashes due to a message you send to anyone on WhatsApp. Here are the details about the WhatsApp crash message

Lock the entire conversation with a single message!

The vulnerability discovered by a user on Twitter is truly interesting. A message sent to a user or group on WhatsApp locks the conversation. After the message is sent, anyone who tries to access the conversation through the mobile app is unable to do so. Instead, they encounter an error message.

You can send this message to a group or personal chat. As mentioned above, when anyone opens the conversation where the message was delivered, the WhatsApp application crashes. Although we do not recommend using this message, it is “wa.me/settings” message. It will crash the application of everyone in the chat you send it to.

So, how can this message’s problem be resolved?

Actually, this situation is not a major issue. The solution is quite simple, and you can continue using the application as long as you don’t enter the conversation where the message was sent when you reopen the app. As for the solution, all you need to do is find a computer or tablet and follow these steps:

  1. Log in to WhatsApp Web.
  2. Enter the conversation where the message was sent.
  3. Since the error doesn’t occur on WhatsApp Web, the conversation will open, and the application won’t crash.
  4. Find the “wa.me/settings” message within the chat.
  5. Delete the message by selecting “Delete for Everyone.”
  6. You can now continue using the application smoothly.

The vulnerability that emerged in previous years was much more significant. When you opened a message sent to you via WhatsApp, your phone would freeze, and the only solution was to perform a “hard reset” on your phone. Perhaps the “wa.me/settings” message could be used as a harmless prank, but the code that appeared in the past period was entirely harmful to users. After WhatsApp fully understood the problem, they released a small update regarding the issue and resolved it.

So, what do you think about this matter? When do you think Meta will take action regarding the WhatsApp crash message vulnerability? Don’t forget to share your opinions in the comments section…
