WhatsApp continues to evolve with frequent updates and features that keep user engagement high. Among the latest additions are the globally available ‘Channels’ feature and a new artificial intelligence assistant joining the ranks of Meta siblings Facebook and Instagram. Now, there’s another feature in the pipeline: Introducing the WhatsApp event creation feature.
How is going to be the WhatsApp event creation feature?
According to the source of WhatsApp updates, the latest update for Android, WhatsApp Beta version 2.23.21.12, available on the Google Play Store, has provided the initial details of the upcoming event creation feature. This feature allows users to plan events for a specific date and time, and share the details with all group members.
In the upcoming update, there will be a new action in the chat sharing menu, featuring a shortcut for creating events. Users will be able to create events with specific names and set reminders during the conversation. This can be seen as a handy tool for planning group activities or keeping personal reminders in check.
It’s worth noting that these event messages are end-to-end encrypted and only accessible to the participants in the conversation. Currently, this feature appears to be designed specifically for group chats, and it is unclear whether events can be shared outside of the group.
After an event is created, it is automatically added to the group conversation, and all participants need to update WhatsApp to the latest version to view and accept the new group invitation event. This chat events feature is likely to be well-received by WhatsApp’s massive user base of 2.7 billion users and may eliminate the need to use other applications like Google Calendar for event planning.
The continuous addition of such features is likely positioning WhatsApp as an all-in-one platform. This claim will be supported by the recent launch of Flows, a new in-app purchase service designed for direct purchasing of products and services.
