WhatsApp has made a radical decision.

With significant developments in the technology world, OpenAI has confirmed that its popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, will no longer be available on the WhatsApp platform.

According to the official announcement, the ChatGPT integration will cease working on Meta’s social networking app as of January 15, 2026. OpenAI cited a policy and terms change at WhatsApp as the primary reason for this decision.

The withdrawal of ChatGPT from WhatsApp will directly impact millions of active users of the bot. According to data shared by OpenAI, more than 50 million users were chatting with ChatGPT on WhatsApp, creating diverse content and learning new things. However, this change in WhatsApp’s policies and terms forced OpenAI to discontinue the integration.

The most pressing issue for users was the fate of their existing chat histories. WhatsApp does not support chat migration by default, and automatic migration of chats will no longer occur after the deadline set by OpenAI.

However, for users who want to preserve their existing chat history, there’s a simple solution. By selecting the “Link your ChatGPT account” option in the “1-800-ChatGPT” contact profile on WhatsApp, users can merge all their WhatsApp conversations with their ChatGPT history.

This process allows users to protect their chat history. Developments are being closely monitored by those who follow technology news. What are your thoughts on this? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
