WhatsApp is working on a new feature to offer its users a faster and easier messaging experience: double-tap message reactions. This feature, which has been available in Instagram’s DMs section for a long time, is now being brought to WhatsApp. Here are the details and what you need to know about how this feature will work.
You will be able to react to messages with a double tap in your WhatsApp chats
WhatsApp is preparing to introduce the double-tap message reaction feature, borrowed from Instagram, to users. This new feature is currently being tested in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android. Users who want to try the feature can try this new feature by joining the WhatsApp beta channel via the Play Store. However, since the beta channel is usually full, you may not always have the chance to participate.
The double-tap message reaction feature, as its name suggests, allows you to quickly react to any message. You can react to photos, videos, and GIFs directly from the media viewer with a double tap. This saves you a few milliseconds each time. The double tap reaction is done with a heart emoji, like on Instagram. If you want to react with a different emoji, you still need to long-press to open the reaction tray and choose from there.
There will be no way to disable this feature, which may be a problem for some users. The possibility of accidentally reacting while browsing old messages may be a minor inconvenience for users. The feature, which is being tested in beta, will be available to all users in the coming weeks or months.
