WhatsApp is working on the HD photo sending feature!

When you send a photo to someone through WhatsApp, the application compresses the image, which significantly reduces the image quality. However, WhatsApp is working on a new feature to solve this issue.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing the HD photo sending feature. In fact, the company has distributed this feature to beta users today through the Android (2.23.12.13) and iOS (23.11.0.76) versions for testing.

As seen in the screenshot above, when you select an image from your gallery to send, there is an option with an HD icon at the top. When users tap on it, they can choose whether to send the photo in HD (4096 x 2692) or standard (1600 x 1052) quality. If the photo is sent in HD, there will be an HD icon in the bottom left corner of the image.

When the photo is sent in standard quality, it undergoes compression, resulting in lower quality but faster transmission. On the other hand, in the HD option, no compression is applied, resulting in a significantly higher image quality.

However, it’s important to note that even though this feature allows sending images in HD quality, the photos will still not be sent in their original quality. WhatsApp will apply compression in both cases, but it will be less prominent in the HD option.

It is expected that WhatsApp will make the HD photo sending feature available to all users in the near future, starting with beta users.
