WhatsApp’s latest Android beta has revealed two new features coming to the app. The new in-app search and Secret Group setting for Communities aim to give users more freedom and privacy.
In-app search and secret group setting coming to WhatsApp
The new WhatsApp beta released last night gave us a preview of some of the new features coming to the app. These features, discovered in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.9.28, include an in-app search and a new Secret Group setting for Communities.
In-app search was discovered in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.9.28. While it’s unclear how WhatsApp plans to implement it, the presence of a standalone call button in the app suggests that the platform may soon allow users to contact unsaved contacts by dialing their phone number directly.
This makes sense because it was previously revealed that WhatsApp is also working on a way for users to quickly start conversations with unsaved contacts. It’s a feature that has been requested by users for a long time.
A search button would be a welcome addition to WhatsApp because a person doesn’t want to unnecessarily save contacts they’ve just met or only plan to interact with once or twice. Users will also have the option to use the internet connection by simply calling a phone number on WhatsApp without saving it to their contacts list first.
The new Secret Groups feature also aims to keep Community groups private. The feature was discovered in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.9.27 and is not yet available to all beta testers. It appears that the feature will only allow invited members to find and join a community group. Only community admins will be able to find and remove the group from the community.
