WhatsApp continues to improve user security. The popular messaging app, which has had two-factor authentication (2FA) support for a while, is now getting the option to save emails. Thus, it will be possible to add another layer when logging into the account from different devices.
WhatsApp activates email addresses for account protection
According to new information, WhatsApp is using email addresses to improve account protection. The new feature, seen in the WhatsApp beta for Android, involves sending a security code to email when logging in from a different device.
The primary purpose of WhatsApp’s addition of email support seems to be to improve security. Although it is not yet clear how it will work, it is expected to be offered separately from two-factor authentication. This will give users the chance to add an extra layer of verification to their accounts.
The email-based security feature is optional for beta users. So you don’t have to connect a mandatory email to WhatsApp. But it’s clear that Meta wants to take additional precautions against account security threats.
WhatsApp has undergone a series of security improvements since last year. The messaging platform has introduced features such as protections against unauthorized account transfers, anti-hacking measures and simplified verification codes.
On the other hand, there have been complaints of foreign calls on the platform for some time. According to reports, there were a total of 1069 complaints about the platform in one week. It states that WhatsApp is responsible if users encounter a possible fraud situation.
