The world’s most popular messaging app, WhatsApp, is taking the user experience to the next level with its About Me feature. The platform is now integrating a popular feature familiar from Instagram into its messaging service.
How will the About Me feature work?
Meta is making the “About Me” section, which allows users to share their current statuses, more functional. This new update allows users to share more dynamic posts instead of simply writing static text. This structure, which resembles Instagram’s Notes feature, aims to increase engagement.
In the revamped system, the status updates you share don’t have to be permanent. By default, the feature allows you to share text that disappears after 24 hours. However, users can shorten or extend this period as they wish. This makes instant statuses like “Busy,” “In a Meeting,” or “On Vacation” more meaningful.
One of the key details of this update is the change in visibility. New statuses appear as a bubble at the top of one-on-one chat windows, next to the profile photo. Your contacts can also respond directly to these statuses, just like on Instagram.
The company also offers detailed privacy settings for this feature. You control who can see the “About Me” information you share (such as Everyone, My Contacts, or Except). This innovation, which has started rolling out to mobile devices, is gradually reaching all users.
