The box office success of last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine film almost guarantees the production of sequels. While the fact that Deadpool and other X-Men characters are now under Marvel Studios’ umbrella complicates future projects, it’s widely believed Marvel will definitely not abandon this popular character.
What is the status of the new Deadpool film?
There’s even talk that the character could make brief cameo appearances in the upcoming Avengers films. However, Deadpool’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may not be limited to these brief appearances. A fourth film in the series is also a strong possibility. Most importantly, Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy seems quite enthusiastic about the idea.
During a podcast this week, he was asked whether a new Deadpool film would be made. While he declined to make a definitive statement on the matter, he did say that he has begun thinking about a new Deadpool film and is already generating ideas for the next one.
Director Shawn Levy has forged an extremely close relationship with lead actor Ryan Reynolds and has previously worked with the renowned actor on various projects. This makes Levy a key figure directly shaping the franchise, rather than an outside director who would later be approached for Deadpool 4.
Therefore, such a statement from him so soon after the film’s success is seen as a very promising development for fans eager to see a fourth Deadpool film.
