Microsoft explains why Quick Resume still hasn’t come to PC

The Quick resume feature allows you to suspend several games simultaneously on Xbox consoles and quickly switch between them. We know that Microsoft wants to bring this feature to computers. So how easy will that be?

Quick Resume on PC is not as simple as it seems

According to the news published by Digitaltrends, Jason Ronald, who pioneered the development of Xbox Series X / S hardware, states that Quick Resume is not simple: “To give some context, it probably took us two to two and a half years of development time to get Quick Resume to be as solid as it is,”

There is a way to use the feature on computers. You can open the resource monitor in Windows and suspend the game. After that, you can continue where you left off. You don’t experience a huge performance loss either. However, as stated, it is not that simple.

Xbox consoles with the Quick Resume feature run three operating systems simultaneously. For direct access to the hardware, the UI, and the game. What enables feature is the interaction between the hardware and the systems used for the game.

The system used for the game hibernates on the SSD through the method used for direct access to the hardware. This is why we can continue our game from where we left off after a long break. The variety of computer software is a barrier to using this feature.

With DirectStorage, a storage API, we can say that a foundation has been laid for the Quick Resume feature to come to computers. DirectStorage and Quick Resume are linked. In the future, we may see this feature on our computers thanks to DirectStorage. But for now, we are only at the beginning of the road.
