Life By You, expected to make waves in the world of video games, was positioned as a direct competitor to The Sims 4. However, in a surprising move, it was canceled in June 2024. This cancellation came as a major disappointment to many gamers and industry followers. Paradox Interactive’s creative director Henrik Fahraeus shed light on the situation.
Fahreus: “The Sims was already better than us!”
Life By You aimed to offer a similar life simulation experience as The Sims 4. However, Fahraeus’s recent revelations in an interview with Game File magazine suggest that the game never reached its expected potential. Fahraeus admitted, “A game in early access needs to be polished and fun. Content might be lacking, but it still needs to offer a good experience to players. Unfortunately, Life By You wasn’t able to reach that level.”
What’s even more striking is that Fahraeus openly stated that Life By You didn’t surpass The Sims 4 in any key areas. This highlights why the game couldn’t meet its competitive expectations. Paradox Interactive’s decision to cancel such a highly anticipated project is a rare move in the gaming world.
After the cancellation, Fahraeus explained that the team repeatedly tried to add new extensions to the development process, but things only got worse. “We saw every single flaw, and fixing them became increasingly difficult. Continuing would have caused more harm,” he said, noting that releasing the game in its current state was not feasible.
Considering these statements, the main reason behind Life By You’s cancellation appears to be the project’s failure to meet expectations and its inability to compete with The Sims 4.
