It’s said that our journey in Norse mythology has ended for God of War, referred to by players as the “Bearded Kratos” era. Although there seemed to be more to explore at the end of GoW: Ragnarok and Valhalla, Sony and Santa Monica have stated that we won’t be seeing a new game in this mythology. So, will Kratos return to Greece in the new game? Here are the details…

Is the beloved God of War game returning?

Exciting details about the future of the God of War series continue to emerge. Having completed his epic journey in Norse mythology with Ragnarok, fans are now curious about where Kratos’ next adventure might take him. Many fans believe the legendary character should return to Greek mythology, and there are some strong hints pointing in that direction.

While not much is known about what happened between God of War 3 and the 2018 God of War, the comic series sheds light on Kratos’ life after killing Zeus. After several failed attempts at ending his own life, Kratos traveled to multiple regions, including Egypt, before arriving in the Norse lands.

It’s estimated that around 150-200 years have passed since God of War 3… During this time, the Greek world likely began to rebuild following the death of the gods. At the end of God of War 3, the hope Kratos unleashed created an opportunity for the Greek people to rise again. This detail was also reflected on a vase in Tyr’s temple in the 2018 game.

The similarities between Roman and Greek gods also provide valuable inspiration for a new story. After Zeus’ death, it’s possible that Roman gods took control of Greece. Alternatively, surviving Greek gods like Apollo, Aphrodite, Artemis, and Phobos—or Athena in her intriguing form—may have taken over.

Although Egyptian mythology seems to be the favorite for the new game, there’s still a strong possibility that we could return to Greece.
