Steam continues to share the results of its hardware and software surveys, which it conducts regularly every month. The platform, which recently published data for May, revealed which hardware and software players prefer. So, which are the most popular operating systems?
Most used operating systems – May 2025
Steam announced the most popular operating systems of May. According to this data, Windows 11 increased by 0.46 percent compared to April. Thus, its market share increased to 58.30 percent.
Windows 10 is second on the list. The operating system experienced a decrease of 1.09 percent compared to April, and its market share fell to 37 percent.
Windows 7, a popular operating system of the period, experienced a decrease last month, and its market share fell to 0.10 percent.
Windows 11 system requirements;
- Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster, 2 or more cores, compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC)
- RAM: 4 gigabytes (GB)
- Storage: 64GB or larger storage device
- System firmware: UEFI with Secure Boot
- TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
- Graphics card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
- Display: High-resolution (720p) display larger than 9 inches diagonally, 8 bits per color channel
- Internet connection and Microsoft accounts: Windows 11 Home edition requires an internet connection and a Microsoft account to complete the device setup on first use. All Windows 11 editions require an internet connection to perform updates and to download and use certain features.
