Witcher 4 may not be coming to this game console!

Ana sayfa / News

CD Projekt RED has been working on The Witcher 4 for a long time, and it stands out as the first Witcher game developed with a focus on consoles. However, this strategy brings unexpected technical difficulties, especially due to hardware differences. The company’s technology chief Charles Tremblay announced that the hardware limitations of the Xbox Series S posed a serious obstacle to the development process.

Tremblay, who made statements after the closed session held in Poland where Unreal Engine 5.6 was introduced, stated that CD Projekt RED is developing by focusing on consoles instead of PCs this time.

The basis of this choice is the serious performance problems experienced in the console versions after the PC-focused development of Cyberpunk 2077. In order to prevent this situation from happening again in Witcher 4, the game’s production process was started based on PlayStation 5 hardware.

This approach was also clearly seen in the technical demo developed. The 60 FPS target was achieved with Ray Tracing on a standard PlayStation 5. However, the situation is more complicated on the Xbox side.

According to Microsoft’s development policy; all games prepared for Xbox Series X must technically run on Series S. This requirement makes Series S, which has weaker hardware, the most technically challenging part of the process.

CD Projekt RED stated that the 60 FPS target on Xbox Series S does not seem realistic at the moment. Charles Tremblay said that this is a serious technical problem that needs to be solved. The development team is working on various ways to overcome this obstacle. However, hardware limitations will play a decisive role in the current situation.
