Although the internet is often useful, people who cause annoyance on social media can drive users away from the platform. X (formerly known as Twitter) has introduced a new feature to address this issue, allowing users to block direct messages (DMs) only. Here’s how to use the new DM block feature on X.
How to use the X DM block feature?
Since being acquired by Elon Musk, Twitter, now known as X, has gone through significant changes in its staff and branding. New features continue to be added, and X has emphasized improving user privacy. With today’s announcement, users can now block specific individuals from messaging them without affecting their overall profile interactions.
The DM block will only apply to the messaging section, allowing the blocked user to continue liking, replying, or mentioning the user in public posts without restrictions. This feature helps users protect their privacy by preventing unwanted direct communication, while still allowing other forms of interaction on the platform.
Steps to block someone’s DMs on X:
- Access your Direct Messages and open the conversation with the user you wish to block.
- Tap or click on the user’s name or avatar to open the conversation info screen.
- Select the option to block messages from the user. This will enable the DM block for that specific person.
Once you block DMs, you will no longer receive direct messages from the blocked user. However, this feature does not affect group chats, where the blocked user’s messages will still be visible. To unblock messages, return to the conversation info screen and look for the option to unblock messages.
