Microsoft and Asus have officially locked in the global launch date for the Xbox Ally handhelds. Both the base and premium models arrive on October 16th with features tailored for handheld gaming alongside a custom UI and new game compatibility system.

The Xbox Ally and Ally X will launch in major regions, including the US, UK, Canada, Japan, Australia, and most of Europe. Only the X model will be available in China at launch.

Though pricing hasn’t been finalized, leaked details suggest $549 for the base model and up to $1,049 for the X. Microsoft says preorder information will drop in the coming weeks.

PS5 price hike hits all models starting tomorrow in the US

Sony confirms a $50 PS5 price hike for all models starting tomorrow, citing tariffs and inflation. Accessories stay the same for now.

Both models share a 7-inch 1080p screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and VRR. But the internal hardware sets them apart.

Here’s a quick breakdown:

The premium version clearly targets players who want top-tier portable performance.

To simplify setup, Microsoft is launching a new tagging system. Games will be marked as Handheld Optimized if they run seamlessly, or Mostly Compatible if minor tweaks are needed. A Windows Performance Fit label will also indicate how well games will perform on the Xbox Ally.

These labels are designed to cut guesswork and get players into games faster.

Instead of dropping users into the usual Windows environment, the Xbox Ally launches directly into a full-screen Xbox interface. The desktop is still available but tucked behind the Game Bar for users who want it.

This shift offers quicker access to games without sacrificing power-user control.

Microsoft previewed several new features still in development:

These additions point to a bigger vision for the Xbox Ally platform well beyond launch day.
