According to Bloomberg sources, the atmosphere at Microsoft has shifted. Many Xbox developers within the company are excited about porting their games to the rival platform, the PS5.
Why do Xbox developers want a PS5?
Jason Schreier of Bloomberg emphasized that the Game Pass system is reducing game sales. Users are renting games at a low price instead of buying them. This distorts studios’ revenue calculations. However, because games are sold at full price on PlayStation, the teams support this process.
Major titles like Gears of War Reloaded and Forza Horizon 5 were released on the PS5 this year. The high numbers vindicated Microsoft’s strategy. This success signaled that the Halo series’ future also lies on Sony consoles.
Microsoft management is demanding higher profit margins following the acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision. Flat Xbox console sales are forcing the company to bring its games to the potentially high-potential PS5.
