Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones have had in-screen fingerprint sensors for many years, but these were optical, not ultrasonic. The same was true for OnePlus. However, this may change with the Xiaomi 15 series and OnePlus 13.
Xiaomi 15 and OnePlus 13 to Use Ultrasonic Fingerprint Technology
According to two separate sources on China’s Weibo platform, Xiaomi is currently testing ultrasonic fingerprint sensors for its upcoming Xiaomi 15 flagship family. The Xiaomi 15 will retain its predecessor’s completely flat screen, while the Ultra model will come with a more curved glass, similar to the 14 Ultra.
The OnePlus 13 is also rumored to be making the switch to an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. This would mean joining the ranks of Samsung’s flagships and some of vivo’s high-end devices which already use this technology.
What are the Benefits of Ultrasonic Technology?
According to our experience, this technology has the potential to unlock the device faster and more accurately. These devices are still in the early stages of development and are expected to hit the Chinese market by the end of the year, and probably the international market in early 2025.
While future changes are a possibility, the inclusion of ultrasonic fingerprint readers in more devices is exciting. The transition of Xiaomi 15 and OnePlus 13 to ultrasonic fingerprint sensors could have a significant impact on the smartphone market.
These developments could set new standards in security and ease of use in mobile devices. What do you think could be the contributions of this technology to user experience? Feel free to share your thoughts below.
