Continuing its competition in the smartphone market, Xiaomi had also made headlines with its first electric vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7. Now, the company, which is already working on SU7 orders, is rumored to be working on a new SUV that will directly compete with the Tesla Model Y. Here are the allegations about Xiaomi’s Tesla Model Y rival SUV…
New SUV Challenger from Xiaomi Against Tesla Model Y
Recently, Xiaomi attracted attention after its SU7 model broke down after traveling only 39 kilometers. Xiaomi stated that this year, the SU7 would reach 100,000 orders and production, but according to leaks from inside the factory, they are working on a new SUV model.
The electric vehicle, which will directly compete with Tesla’s popular Model Y, has been in development since Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun’s speech about electric vehicles in 2021, so it could enter production soon.
Known for pushing boundaries by increasing gears, the Chinese company is expected to announce its new Xiaomi electric car model by the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026. Xiaomi, believed to fix the flaws and mistakes made in the first model, seems to be paying more attention to the SUV. With its factory in Beijing capable of producing 300,000 vehicles, Xiaomi could rapidly expand in the electric vehicle market and become a significant manufacturer.
Price competition is also crucial when choosing electric cars. Xiaomi managed to break the price perception barrier with its SU7 model, which was priced at below $28,000. It’s expected that the upcoming Xiaomi SUV model will also have a budget-friendly price tag, likely below $20,000.
