Xiaomi has accelerated test production of its first electric car at its new factory in China. According to sources, the factory has been producing around 50 prototypes of the sedan, named MS11, per week since last month.
Xiaomi produces 50 EV prototypes a week
The company, which continues its automobile activities under the name Xiaomi Automobile, has increased its gear. The model named MS11, which is still in the prototype stage, is being tested with a production of 50 units per week.
The company needs to obtain licenses from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission to start mass production. Sources revealed that the approvals will be received in the next 1-2 months. As a result of this situation, mass production is planned to start by the end of the year.
On the other hand, Xiaomi has rolled up its sleeves for mass production. While it continues to recruit workers for the factory, it aims to have 100 employees at the beginning. Experts estimate that the factory in China will reach 10 thousand units per month within 4 months after the start of production.
Xiaomi has also agreed with its suppliers for the car battery. Expected to take the stage in 2024, the primary battery supplier of the car was Sino-Innovative Aviation, and the secondary supplier was Ningde Times. The battery weighs 642 kg and will support 800V fast charging.
The company will follow a different path than other electric car manufacturers. According to important sources, the company’s profit from hardware will remain around 1 percent. Therefore, Xiaomi plans to focus on the software side to increase profits.
The Chinese manufacturer plans to launch its first car in the first half of 2024. It was said that its price will be at the level of 200 thousand CNY (27 thousand dollars).
