Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has announced that it will continue developing high-end mobile processors for its smartphones. Xiaomi has experience producing its own processors. The company used its first chipset, the Surge S1, in the Mi 5c model years ago and later began work on the Surge S2. However, it has not expanded the Surge series to mainstream devices.
Xiaomi is coming with new mobile processors
Xiaomi took a major step in this area with the XRING 01, last introduced in May. This processor, developed using TSMC’s 3nm process, adopted a “2+2+4+2” core setup. Four cores (A725) operated at 3.4 GHz, two cores (X925) at 3.9 GHz, another two cores (A725) at 1.9 GHz, and the remaining two cores (A520) at 1.8 GHz.
This processor, which scored over 3 million points in AnTuTu tests, used the Immortalis-G925 GPU. The XRING 01 made waves in the tech news as a key piece of hardware, boasting superiority to Apple’s A18 Pro in certain areas.
Xiaomi Vice President Xu Fei recently stated that new processors will be added to the XRING series in the coming period. Fei stated that unlike Apple, Xiaomi doesn’t aim to release a new flagship processor every year.
He also confirmed that Xiaomi will continue to use processors from Qualcomm and MediaTek in its phones. This suggests that the Chinese tech giant isn’t aiming to switch entirely to its own processors yet, but will continue to maintain a strong presence in the high-end segment with its new processors.
