Xiaomi’s electric vehicle sales are falling! Why?

Ana sayfa / News

In recent weeks, Xiaomi’s electric vehicle division has been experiencing a serious decline. The company’s total vehicle sales fell from 7,200 units to 5,200 units between the 16th and 19th weeks of 2025.

Weekly sales of the SU7 models in particular fell from 6,700 units to 4,700 units. Company founder Lei Jun described this period as “the most difficult period since the establishment of the automotive department” in a statement he made on Weibo.

We can say that the decline in sales is directly related to a series of crises. The carbon fiber hood offered as an option on the SU7 Ultra model was criticized for not meeting expectations. Xiaomi, on the other hand, claims that this part cools the wheel hubs by directing airflow and offers better performance than the standard hood.

With the OTA update released in May, the maximum power of the SU7 Ultra was reduced from 1,548 horsepower to 900 horsepower. It was also announced that certain track criteria must be met in order to get full performance from the vehicle. This change contradicted Xiaomi’s marketing strategy’s promise of a top speed of 350 km/h and was met with backlash from users.

The SU7 Ultra accident in March and a subsequent highway accident also increased safety concerns. These incidents caused the company to review its safety measures.
