Scientists in Australia have tried an interesting way to combat invading ants. Accordingly, the conditions under which local ants should fight the invading ants are simulated through the Age of Empires 2 game. Here is the Age of Empires 2 game and ant war training…
Ant warfare solution to Australia’s invading ant problem with Age of Empires 2
Scientists who have been fighting invasive ant colonies in the country for many years have discovered a new way. They simulate how native ant species can succeed against one of the invading species. However, the scientists chose Age of Empires 2 for the ant war simulation.
There are actually many invasive ant species in Australia. These species, which have increased especially in recent years, threaten both local ants and the ecological balance. Especially the species that are larger than the local ants are even more dangerous. Australian scientists have simulated how to fight against these large ant species.
Simulations of ant warfare with Age of Empires 2 revealed that strong but small forces are successful in complex terrain, while weak but large armies are successful in open terrain. Local species, especially those living in Australia, are strong because they are on their own land. However, invaders with nearly 50 different species are weak against local species, even if they are large in size. In this sense, scientists have initiated a study to increase bushland in the country for ant wars.
Scientists, who also put these simulations into real life, organized ant wars in a laboratory environment. Here, too, it was discovered that local species can be strong in a similar scenario against both crowded and large species.
Invasive ants are one of Australia’s main problems. They harm not only native species but also endangered animals. They are also destroying agricultural land and threatening the country’s habitat.
Do you think the ant war simulation made with Age of Empires 2 can bring a useful solution to this problem? We are waiting for your comments.
