Nowadays, many users use adblock to skip ads while watching videos. YouTube, on the other hand, has recently started showing a warning encouraging users to disable adblockers or subscribe to Premium. Interestingly, however, it was noticed that Windows Phone is exempt from this warning.
You can skip YouTube ads with Windows Phone
A Twitter user known for sharing tech tricks has discovered an interesting way to bypass the ad blocking warning on YouTube. He revealed that converting Chrome to the Windows Phone version can disable YouTube ads.
Windows Phone, Microsoft’s former mobile operating system, was retired in 2017. However, Google doesn’t seem to have updated YouTube’s ad algorithm to be Windows Phone-friendly.
A Chrome extension (User-Agent Switcher for Chrome) makes the operating system look like Windows Phone. This prevents YouTube from detecting the ad-blocker and giving you a warning. So you can watch ad-free videos without a Premium subscription
It is not yet clear why Google did not close the Windows Phone loophole. But the operating system’s small market share before it was deprecated probably led Google to ignore it. But after this trick, the company is expected to patch Windows Phone.
For now, you can watch ad-free videos from YouTube thanks to the Chrome extension. This means that even years after Windows Phone’s support was discontinued, it still works by blocking YouTube ads.
