You shouldn’t use Threads for some reasons

Ana sayfa / Social Media

Following its acquisition by Elon Musk, many competing Twitter apps have emerged. The recent launch of Meta’s Threads platform has added to the competition. Reaching more than 100 million people in 3 days, the platform comes with a number of security issues. Here are the top reasons not to use Threads.

Think twice before using Threads

Twitter, which has made a name for itself with radical decisions since it was sold to Elon Musk, has angered users. So much so, in fact, that the recent introduction of a limit on the number of tweets you can view has only increased the backlash against the platform. Threads, which debuted at the same time, was seen by users as the most powerful alternative to Twitter.

Instagram account commitment

Threads, developed by Meta, requires users to have an Instagram account in order to sign up. While this may not seem like a big problem for Instagram users, its dependence on Instagram is worrying. Threads can’t even be removed without deleting your Instagram account.

Privacy concerns

Meta’s practices have also raised privacy concerns for years. Threads has also been criticised for the excessive amount of data it collects. According to its privacy policy, the app goes through a lot of your data, including web browsing history, apps, health and financial information.

Meta or Facebook’s history

Meta’s track record when it comes to privacy is not very good. The company formerly known as Facebook paid a $5 billion fine over the Cambridge Analytica scandal. It was also fined €265 million by the Irish Data Protection Commission and is still appealing a €1.2 billion fine.

Is it really a competitor to Twitter?

Finally, the future of Threads is still uncertain. Although it reached 100 million people in its first week, it is unclear how long it will continue to compete with Twitter. It’s also worth noting that it’s not available in the EU due to the Meta ruling.
