As the year draws to a close, YouTube has launched its new Recap feature, which compiles users’ on-platform habits in one place. This feature, which offers a format similar to Spotify Wrapped, generates a personalized year-over-year assessment based on viewing history.
YouTube shares viewing habits
The summary presented to users brings together the categories most spent time on throughout the year, the most frequently viewed content creators, and changes in viewing habits. YouTube displays this data across 12 different cards, making users’ journey on the platform more understandable.
Recap cards include information on popular channels, featured content genres, and how interest has shaped throughout the year. YouTube also uses this data to assign a personality profile to each user.
Designations such as Adventurer, Skill Builder, or Creative Spirit are determined based on the overall rhythm of their viewing behavior. The music side isn’t completely left out; users also see limited data on the artists and songs they listened to most throughout the year. The detailed yearly summary in the YouTube Music app continues to be presented independently.
The new Recap feature has been launched in the US and will be available to global users throughout the week. Available on mobile and desktop, the feature can be viewed via the dedicated Recap button on the YouTube homepage or the “You” tab in the profile menu.
Along with the Recap announcement, YouTube also shared the most-watched creators and trends of the year in the US. MrBeast topped the list again, while The Joe Rogan Experience took first place in the podcast category. On the music front, the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, while prominent on the overall charts, didn’t have the same impact on Shorts content.
