Google is making radical changes to the YouTube Music app to stay ahead of the competition. The app’s long-used playback interface is being completely overhauled and simplified with a new update.
YouTube Music is coming with a new interface
In the new update, the Song/Video switcher found in the old interface is gone. Furthermore, the Next/Lyrics/Similar menu at the bottom of the screen has been changed to a dual-window structure. Swiping up on this menu opens a menu showing which playlist or radio broadcast you’re currently on. Long-pressing the menu brings back the original menu from the old version.
The locations of the playback controls and the blocks containing likes and comments have been changed. These changes have made the interface cleaner and more organized. The new update has begun rolling out to Android and iOS devices incrementally.
This redesign demonstrates Google’s efforts to make the user experience more streamlined and minimalist. These changes, made specifically for easier navigation and one-handed use on mobile devices, are intended to provide users with faster access to music and less clutter within the app.
Simplifying the previously complex menu structure is seen as a step toward shifting the app’s focus to music. Furthermore, this move more closely resembles the user-friendly interfaces offered by rivals like YouTube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music.
In the highly competitive music streaming market, such small but impactful tweaks play a significant role in increasing user loyalty to the platform. How these changes will be received by users and what impact they will have on the app’s overall performance will become clearer in the coming days.
