YouTube has taken a remarkable step regarding the rapidly increasing artificial intelligence content recently. The platform is changing its monetization policy effective July 15, 2025. As of this date, channels that contain “mass produced” or “repetitive content” will be removed from the YouTube Partnership Program. Thus, the right of these channels to receive a share of ad revenues will be terminated.
YouTube is changing its monetization policy
The reason for the decision was not directly explained. However, YouTube used the expression “mass produced and repetitive” in its announcement. There is no clarity on which content will be evaluated within this scope.
It remains unclear whether only videos prepared with artificial intelligence or content prepared by humans and voiced by artificial intelligence fall into this category; or whether changes made to existing videos with artificial intelligence are also included in this scope.
The first statement from YouTube stated that no major changes were made to the previously implemented policies, but that the rules would be monitored more strictly. Comments that the platform will apply some kind of filtering against artificial intelligence technologies used in content production have brought about discussions.
The decision was met with different reactions within the community. Some people find it positive that artificial intelligence videos that have started to tire users are being prevented. According to this group, hundreds of similar videos appear before them every day and these contents are far from originality.
On the other hand, the dominant view is that YouTube’s main goal is to push small producers out of the system and channel revenues to large content producers. This group argues that the decision will reduce creative diversity on the platform and accelerate YouTube’s centralization trend.
While the impact of artificial intelligence on content production is increasing, it is a matter of curiosity how far YouTube will take its restrictions in this area. Unclear definitions increase the question marks about how the decision will be implemented. Content producers are closely following the developments that will take place as of July 15.
