YouTube, the world’s most popular video platform, has been among the names that have not left the agenda lately. In the past weeks, there have been news that YouTube will not allow the use of ad-blocking applications. Today, while the platform continues its pressure, European Union privacy advocates state that this pressure will be lifted.
According to EU laws, what YouTube does is illegal!
The popular video viewing platform YouTube has come to the agenda with the issue of ad-blocking applications in recent weeks. The platform stated that it will not allow users to use ad-blocking applications.
This also means that watching advertisements on YouTube will be mandatory. However, some claims have emerged today regarding the issue. Some privacy advocates in the European Union stated that this restriction will be lifted through legal regulations.
Privacy expert Alexander Hanff states that YouTube’s ad blocker system is a privacy issue. On the other hand, he states that the EU is legal for them too. Hanff included the following statements:
“AdBlock detection files are spyware. There is no other way around these identifications and therefore their use without permission is unacceptable.” The privacy expert is actually talking about some code that detects whether an ad blocker is used on the page of sites like YouTube.
The platform previously made a small trial of blocking ad blockers. However, in later times, this issue became global. After a while, YouTube started displaying a prompt for those using ad blockers, urging them to either allow ads instead of videos or become a Premium subscriber. This was not welcomed by users.
