YouTube’s controversial design changes extend to Android

YouTube continues to make controversial changes to its user experience. The design changes that were implemented for the desktop version a while ago have now been extended to the YouTube app for Android. The platform has also quietly stepped up its efforts against ad blocking tools.

YouTube Android app rounds video and thumbs corners

YouTube has confirmed that it has changed the thumbnails of videos and the playback window in desktop browsers to rounded corners. Users began criticizing this design for creating unnecessary gaps on the screen.

The rounded corner design seems to have finally made its way into the Android app. Screenshots from users show thumbnails with rounded edges replacing the rectangular format.

Viewers watching YouTube on TV are getting rid of a big hassle!

YouTube has made a decision that is open to debate but could be beneficial for viewers watching videos on smart TVs.

This design change for videos and thumbnails is part of an effort to modernize the YouTube interface. However, some users believe that the rounded corners detract from the video viewing experience.

In addition to the design change, YouTube’s battle against ad blocking tools has intensified. For months, it has been targeting viewers who block ads despite not being Premium. It wants the ad blocker to be turned off before watching the video.

YouTube has recently reportedly started to completely block playback for some free users. In other words, users who are not Premium subscribers are now required to watch ads before or between videos.
