YouTube continues to add artificial intelligence integration to its platform. According to a new feature, the company wants to prepare short summaries of videos with the support of artificial intelligence. In this way, users will have an idea before watching the video and watch the full version if they wish.
YouTube to test AI-generated video summaries
On a new support page shared by YouTube, it was stated that it is testing video summaries generated by artificial intelligence. This feature, which will initially be fed by English subtitles, will provide a brief overview of the video.
According to YouTube, the primary goal is to help users make better decisions about which videos to watch. In other words, users will be able to see whether a video is relevant to their interests before they click on it. Summaries will appear both on video pages and in search results.
It is unclear how detailed the video summaries will be, but it is thought that they will consist of a few sentences depending on the length of the video. Therefore, YouTube emphasized that the texts written by the AI may not reflect the exact wording in the video.
Testing is so far limited to English videos. The feature is also being tested by a limited number of users. It should be noted that YouTube has not shared screenshots of how the video summaries will look.
It is currently unclear whether users will find the video summaries useful, and whether video owners will like these descriptions. However, we do know that YouTube is actively working to bring AI support to the platform.
For example, we reported a while ago that YouTube will add AI questions to educational videos, which will make course content more interactive.
