YouTube has begun rolling out a comprehensive update to its users, modernizing the platform’s appearance and functionality. Available on all platforms, including Android, iOS, web, and TV, YouTube’s new video player promises a cleaner and more immersive viewing experience. This update aims to make content stand out with fewer distractions.
What does the new YouTube video player offer?
The new design includes significant changes, particularly in the layout of controls and buttons. For example, in landscape mode on mobile devices, most of the control buttons are now grouped together in a pill-shaped design on the left side. Crucially, this arrangement provides a larger viewing area on the video screen.
The update not only offers visual updates but also increases user engagement. Dynamic animations, such as a “musical note” or “a still from the game,” that appear specifically for content when the like button is clicked, make the platform more enjoyable. Furthermore, the ability to fast-forward or rewind a video by double-tapping has been redesigned to be less disruptive.
YouTube hasn’t forgotten the comments section, one of the areas where users spend most of their time. Thanks to the new “comment thread” system, focusing on replies and following discussions is now much easier. Adding videos to your “Watch Later” list or other playlists has also become more streamlined and visual.
